The image is a cover for the German magazine Der Orchideengarten (“The Orchid Garden”), which is considered the world’s first fantasy and horror magazine. It was published in German from 1919 to 1921, with 51 issues in total. The magazine featured a blend of fantasy, early science-fiction, and horror stories by both German and foreign authors, including Edgar Allan Poe, H.G. Wells, and Charles Dickens. It was known for its ghoulish and avant-garde cover art and illustrations, combining gothic and expressionist styles.
